so far, so good! |
We bought this player because our old player (a 3-yr-old Radio Shack model) broke while on vacation, and I could not stomach the thought of a 4-hr plane flight with my rambunctious 6-yr-old without a dvd player. This particular model was the only one offered at the department store we stopped at, so I was more than a little disoncerted later to see the negative reviews posted here.
However, I can say that after two weeks of fairly heavy use, including one cross-country flight, I have no complaints. The first night I couldn't figure out how to attach the battery on firmly enough so it would charge, so I was ready to return it, but when I tried the next morning it clicked easily into place and I have had no trouble with it since. The battery seems to last longer than the promised 2.5 hours, which is nice.
Pluses: (1) The carrying case, which has tons of room, although I have yet to figure out what some of the straps/spaces etc. are designed for.
(2) Picture quality, which is terrific.
(3) Clear, simple controls on main player, and the remote, while more cluttered, is more comprehensible than some you encounter.
Minuses: (1) The manual was hard to follow, and one must infer through trial and error that if you want to watch the movie on the attached portable screen rather than a separate TV, the switch needs to be turned to "TFTT" (which is never defined) rather than "Video" (which is what I had incorrectly assumed was the proper setting, but if you leave it on "video" it only gives you that audio but no picture. Go figure.)
(2) The supplied headphones are not that comfortable. We just use the headphones from our old set instead.
All in all, my experience with the player has been positive. Would I have bought it if I had the luxury of taking my time to shop and read Amazon reviews first? Probably not, given some of the horror stories included here. But am I happy with it? Yes. So I thought I would write this review to provide some balance. |

Stay Away - Inferior Product |
| This thing died after 4 uses. Company wants $60 to repair. No thanks, I'll give another company my $60 on another product. You'll be sorry!!! |
